Matt Eppen: Head Coach
Coach Eppen is building a strong foundation as he enters his seventh year as head coach. From holding youth summer basketball camps to establishing Burnsville traveling basketball teams of all ages, he has been putting in work towards the future.
He spent 2008 thru 2010 as an Assistant Coach at St. Olaf College under Head Coach Dan Kosmoski. Prior to that, he spent one year as a Burnsville Girls' Assistant Coach under Head Coach Steve Ray. From 1998-2007 he was the Head Boys' Basketball Coach at NRHEG High School in New Richland, MN. He is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College with a Masters Degree from Southwest Minnesota State University. He grew up in Lake City, MN, where he played for Hall of Fame Coach, Jerry Snyder.
Ethan Walker: Varsity Assistant
Coach Walker grew up right here in Burnsville. Coach Walker graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth and earned his Master's at Saint Mary's University. Coach Walker has taught English at his alma mater, Eagle Ridge Middle School for the past 4 years. He is extremely passionate about teaching, and has never had a bad day at "the office." In his spare time, Coach likes to golf and play basketball. Coach Walker's coaching philosophy is heavily influenced by former Burnsville coach Doug Boe, and Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.
Scott Reader: Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Reader grew up in Upstate New York, where he attended and played basketball at Bloomfield Central School. After High School he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Scott started coaching basketball at the AAU level in 1998 and we are now pleased to have Coach Reader entering his sixth season with the Burnsville Basketball program.
Joshua Flug: Sophomore Coach
Coach Flug grew up in Babbitt, MN and attended Babbitt-Embarrass High School. Coach Flug was a four sport captain and letterwinner in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He played basketball under Tim Malone (current AD at Stewartville) and was named all conference as a junior and senior. He went to college in Fargo-Moorhead at North Dakota State and Minnesota State Moorhead, he obtained his Master's in Education at St. Mary's University. He started working in ISD 191 as a Social Studies teacher in 2013. He currently teaches Social Studies and AVID at Burnsville High School. Coach Flug also coaches varsity football and junior varsity baseball at BHS. Coach Flug says the reason he got into coaching and teaching was the impact Mr. Malone and others had on him, he says the biggest influence on his coaching philosophy is Coach Tim Malone and Coach Tyler Krebs.
Hunter Eustice: Sophomore Assistant
Coach Eustice grew up in the small town of Ellendale, MN (10 minutes from Owatonna) and attended NRHEG where he played under Coach Eppen when he was first teaching/coaching. Coach Eustice studied education at Winona State University. He says he coaches not only for success of his players on the court, but he also wants to help them grow into respectful, responsible, humble, hard working, caring, and successful young adults off of the court. Coach Eustice played varsity all four years of high school and was a starter for three.This is his 2nd year coaching with the Blaze, he was the 9B coach last year and is the Sophomore assistant coach this year. Outside of coaching, he enjoys watching all sports, spending time outside with his dog, fishing and spending time with his family. He currently resides in Eden Prairie, MN with his fiancé, Jovana.
Alex Davis: 9A Coach
Coach Davis was born and raised in Burnsville, MN. He is currently studying Health & Physical Education at the University of Concordia St Paul. Coach Davis has been coaching in our program for the past 2 years at Eagle Ridge and as a 10th grade assistant, he will be the head 9th grade A coach in his 3rd year. He also played in our program from Jr high all the way up until he graduated in 2015. He has a lot of experience at many positions on the court, he played and guarded anywhere from the guard and forward positions on the Varsity level. Coach Davis has also started his own business venture in basketball skills training, called Never Stop Ballin Basketball. He trains players individually, partners, and in groups throughout the entire offseason, working with a variety of ages and skill levels of players. This upcoming offseason will be his second year skills training. As you can see coach Davis is constantly around the game and learning, between coaching, training, and basketball officiating he truly loves the game. His goal is to be well rounded, create a winning culture, teach good work ethic, while being able to relate to kids of all ages and backgrounds in basketball but also be there as support for obstacles kids may face beyond the court.
David Quamme: 9B Coach
Coach Quamme grew up in East Grand Forks, MN. He played basketball into mid-high school where he became the team manager and statistician thereafter. He graduated from Bemidji State University with degrees in Math and Math Education, and obtained a Masters Degree from St. Mary's University. Coach Quamme began teaching math in ISD 191 in 2013 at Metcalf Junior High. In 2015, he transfered to the high school where he currently teaches Algebra 2 and Algebra 3. He coached Metcalf 9B boys basketball from 2014-2016
